Have the “Barbie" and "Dune: Part Two" red carpets changed the way studio publicists view stylists? Let’s take a look at how both films embraced the fashion world to create layers of press around their premieres.

For the "Barbie" premieres, Margot Robbie attended dressed head-to-toe in character. Her stylist, Andrew Mukamal, recreated the dolls’ iconic looks and collaborated with major fashion brands from Versace to Valentino. It was genius because every image screamed Barbie - you didn’t need to read a caption to know what she was promoting. The outfits were devoured by press editors at Vogue to fashion influencers on TikTok. And the iconic fashion houses further promoted the designs to women all over the world. Then, Mukamal released a special edition Rizzoli book that chronicled her entire press tour wardrobe.

So, all that made sense for 'Barbie' due to the doll's status as a fashion icon. Now, enter Zendaya and co…

In “Dune: Part Two,” we have this desert dystopian movie that likely skews more towards young men. It’s not a movie that screams fashion either – even Zendaya said her costume felt like a “a Dr. Martens boot.” But their stylists were able to create powerful looks that aligned with the film. They embraced earthy tones. They complemented the step-and-repeat. They even orchestrated matching outfits for Zendaya and Timothée. Zendaya’s stylist, Law Roach, told British Vogue, “we adopted method dressing.” “The looks served as an extension of the wardrobe from the movie. It was intentional and purposeful.” And his thoughtfulness resulted in thousands of social media mentions and articles. It also created a fashion frenzy. To the studio publicist - that’s priceless.

We hope this style of “method dressing” inspires publicists to collaborate with stars, stylists, designers, and photographers to create more of these memorable red carpet moments.
