It's an espionage thriller and cross-culture satire set in the final days of the Vietnam War. Vanity Fair had the first look and called it “an audacious, ferocious adaptation.” We’re betting this is a big launch and keep an eye out for Robert Downey Jr. and star Hoa Xuande doing the press circuit to promote it.

GHOSTBUSTERS: FROZEN EMPIRE (Sony Pictures) - This week, we’re covering the PR & marketing campaign for “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.” For studio publicists, these big IP films have built-in buzz and huge marketing budgets.  But on the flip side, there is massive pressure to dream up and execute a fresh campaign. It topped the box office this weekend, so let’s take a look at the hard work it took them to get there.

The publicists created special moments throughout the campaign. On The Tonight Show, Bill Murray interrupted Fallon’s monologue (wearing his GB jacket). Then the crew alongside Ray Parker Jr. and the Roots performed the “Ghostbusters' theme song. They partnered with Adam Savage’s Tested and did a series of cool behind-the-scenes set interviews. Adam interviewed the special effects team. Then he shared the science (and recipe) for the iconic slime and much more with his 6.5M subscribers.  The cast appeared on CBS Mornings. And that evening attended the NYC Premiere at Lincoln Center.  They coordinated hilarious social media interviews between Paul Rudd & Bill Murray. Then they created a fan experience at Ghostbusters HQ—aka Ladder Company 8, the real Tribeca firehouse. And held a special press event with FDNY, Ecto-1 and Ecto-Z.

On the marketing side, they upped the game with a frozen National Hockey League promo. They partnered with ICEE on specialty frozen drinks (Slimer & Mini-Puft).  The Ecto-1 made a surprise appearance at the Anaheim 2 Supercross. They sent up 3D Slimer billboards and wrapped buses in high traffic locations. On the tech side, they launched a mobile interactive AR experience (GhostbustersAR.com). Hosted an interactive experience at CES and released custom TikTok filters for fans. It was truly a special & memorable launch.

These are the trailers that dropped last week.  These drops signify the beginning of a marketing campaign. And a good time to start thinking about and planning for interviews.
