SXSW: The news about SXSW is heating up as the festivities are less than 2 weeks away ā€” from March 8 to 16 in Austin, TX. While itā€™s fun to watch the world premiere of a movie or attend a panel discussion, it's the surrounding events and activations where you'll find the majority of interview opportunities and photo ops. Most of these events are open to badge holders, so if youā€™re headed to Austin, here's a handy cheat sheet!
Ā Ā
šŸ’“Ā iHeart Podcast Awards - On March 11, the award show is live @ Fairmont Hotel.
šŸ¤£Ā Variety Power of Comedy - On March 8, the award show is at ACL Live at The Moody Theater! 2024 honorees include Samantha Bee, Nick Kroll, Lilly Singh among others!
šŸ’©Ā Rolling Stone ā€˜Shits & Gigglesā€™ - From March 13-16, the activation will have a 30 foot šŸ’© in the parking lot at Fifth and Trinity. Rolling Stone and ~Pourri will co-host music from DJ Questlove and live podcast sessions of the Holy Sh!t with Suzy.
ā²ļøĀ Deadline - From March 8-11, Deadline will conduct scheduled interviews at the Thompson Hotel.
šŸ˜·Ā Unwell House - From March 9-10, Spotifyā€™s #1 Podcaster Alex Cooper & co will be taking over 1102 East Cesar Chavez.
šŸ“šļøĀ Audible - From March 8-10, Audible is amping up the fun and hosting a carnival with a Ferris Wheel, games, prizes, and new listens at 3rd & Congress.
šŸ–„ļøĀ YouTube Creators - On March 12, YouTube is hosting a private Creatorā€™s Collective Meetup with ShadeTV and Andru Edwards.
ā›°ļøĀ Paramount + - From March 8-11, 'The Lodge' Interactive Experience will feature the streamers mountain of entertainment from ā€œMean Girlsā€ to ā€œBob Marley: One Love.ā€

THE GIRLS ON THE BUS (MAX) - MAX just released the trailer for the drama series "The Girls on the Bus," which debuts on Tuesday, March 14ā€”timed to air 2 weeks after Super Tuesday. Keep an eye out for upcoming interviews featuring cast members Melissa Benoist and Carla Gugino, along with the Executive Producers. The series is inspired by co-creator and Chasing Hillary author Amy Chozick and her experiences as a political reporter on the campaign bus with multiple presidential candidates. In the show, the women get a "front-row seat to the greatest soap opera in townā€”the battle for the White House." Given the timing, we believe Chozick would be a fantastic interviewee to hear about her real-life experiences and how they will be reflected in the show.

3 BODY PROBLEM (Netflix) - This will be a high-profile launch for Netflix on March 21. ā€œ3 Body Problemā€ is by ā€œGame of Thronesā€ creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, alongside ā€œTrue Bloodā€ writer Alexander Woo. The streamer debuted the trailer at CES, featured the creators on the cover of the Hollywood Reporter, and will have the SXSW Opening Night Screening on March 8 at the Paramount Theater. The creator interviews will be a hot ticket, but it will be worth it to hear about how they acquired the rights to the bestselling Chinese sci-fi novel, how they adapted the series, and what fans can expect.

PROBLEMISTA (A24) - Julio Torres writes, directs, and stars in this A24 film that Slate says is 'a hilarious twist on the American Dream' and The Hollywood Reporter describes as 'a total pleasure.' This surrealist comedy film enjoyed a hugely successful debut at SXSW 2023 but was delayed due to the writerā€™s strike. It is finally being released in March. Julio is an SNL writing alum, the creator of HBO comedy 'Los Espookys,' and a hugely talented figure in the comedy space to interview.

AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER (Netflix) - The Netflix team just gave us a masterclass in marketing with the debut of ā€œAvatar: The Last Airbender.ā€ Nowā€¦ weā€™ve been in marketing meetings where executives throw out major artists and celebrities who are fans of a show and say ā€œletā€™s reach out and see if they will promote itā€ which mostly lands with an unanswered email or an amused agent. However, the Netflix team managed to secure Serena Williams, a big fan and previous voice actor, to star in a commercial where her Avatar state is activated while playing tennis. They then premiered the commercial during the NBA All-Star Game to further capitalize on the sports angle. Netflix hosted a massive premiere party at the Egyptian Theater, sent a fuzzy Appa bus around LA (this weekend at LACMA and Century City mall), released a cabbage smash game, Avatar-themed filters, collaborated with YouTuber and illusionist Zach King and the biggest moment ā€” took over the iconic Sphere in Las Vegas. Their marketing team would make for a great guest on your marketing or business podcast to talk about this incredibly robust campaign.
